Prosthetic treatment

The type of dental prosthesis to be used, which plays an important role in the treatment of missing teeth, is determined by your dentist so that your oral and dental health is protected in the best possible way.

What is a fixed denture?

In a fixed prosthesis, teeth with excessive material loss or missing teeth are rebuilt with materials that match the colour and texture of the surrounding teeth. Depending on the structure of your teeth, there are different material options for this treatment, also known as crowns. There are various material alternatives such as metal, metal-supported porcelain crowns, reinforced porcelain or all-porcelain zirconium crowns.

Porcelain crowns with metal support: These are prostheses made of aesthetic porcelain that rest on a metal framework.

All-porcelain crowns: Metal-free all-porcelain crowns are suitable for anterior teeth where aesthetics are important to achieve a natural appearance.

Metal crowns: These are crowns made entirely of metals such as gold, chrome and cobalt. In contrast to all-porcelain crowns, the areas of application are limited and they are suitable for use on back teeth that do not cause aesthetic problems and in areas where all-porcelain crowns cannot be used.

What stages does a fixed prosthesis go through?

The final shape of fixed prostheses requires at least 4 treatment sessions.

Preparation and measurement: The tooth or teeth to be restored are reduced to the amount of restoration to be used and accurate measurements of the mouth are taken for the laboratory model and procedures. The colour of the teeth is determined jointly by the patient and dentist.

Dental trial: This involves testing how the zirconium or metal framework prepared from the casting fits in the mouth.

Porcelain trial: In this phase, the dental prosthesis is finalised. The porcelain produced in the laboratory is checked to ensure that it matches the adjacent teeth, the opposing teeth and the surrounding tissue. After checking the aesthetic and colour balance, final approval is given by the patient. The material is then sent to the laboratory for polishing.

Polishing and cementation: The denture polished in the laboratory is placed in the mouth. If there are no problems, it is attached to the tooth with the patient's consent and the remains are cleaned after the adhesives have hardened.

All oral hygiene and care has a direct effect on the durability of the prosthesis. Patients are informed when dental bridges are required. Appointments are made for routine check-ups.

What is a removable denture?

These are prostheses that can be inserted and removed by the patient to replace missing teeth. There are different types of dentures available, including complete dentures, partial dentures, immediate dentures and overdentures

Complete dentures

Complete dentures are dentures that are also known as "dentures". They are made with the support of the bone tissue located in the lower and upper jaw if you do not have your own teeth in your mouth. It is preferred in cases where the implant cannot be performed. For complete dentures, acrylic dentures made of special materials are usually used instead of porcelain teeth.

Partial dentures

Partial dentures are removable dentures that are the preferred alternative to implants if you still have some of your own teeth.

Partial dentures are made of acrylic or one-piece cast. This type of denture is supported by wires that are connected to the main teeth.

Immediate dentures

In cases where all the main teeth need to be removed, one of the alternatives for those who do not want to be toothless are dentures that are installed immediately once the natural teeth are removed, known as "immediate dentures". Once healing is complete and the tissues are no longer compatible with these dentures, the patient's permanent dentures are made.

Dental prostheses

Prostheses that are applied to the natural tooth or root in the mouth are called "dental prostheses". The natural tooth or root on which the prosthesis fits provides support and stability for the prosthesis.
